Chasteberry powder supports normal hormone production and disposition in horses. It may work by supporting normal function of the pituitary gland. It may support a healthy metabolism, reproductive health, coat quality, and sex hormone regulation.
Chasteberry
Mad Barn’s bulk Chasteberry powder is an herbal supplement used to support normal hormone balance and pituitary gland function.
Chasteberry comes from the fruit and seeds of the chaste tree, also known as Vitex Agnus-Castus. This supplement is commonly given to horses to promote a balanced disposition, healthy coats, and to support normal hormone regulation in senior horses.
It is sometimes used to provide nutritional support to horses with Equine Cushing’s Disease (PPID) and Insulin Resistance. However, it should not be used as a replacement for pergolide in horses with Cushing’s disease (PPID). It is also given to easy keepers and horses with cresty necks and atypical fat deposits.
In traditional medicine systems, Chasteberry powder has long been used as an adaptogen, believed to support homeostasis and reduce stress in a wide range of physiological systems.
Research shows that chasteberry influences the activity of the neurotransmitter dopamine and the endocrine system. Chasteberry may promote a balanced disposition by improving sex hormone levels in mares.
It appears to work by modulating the secretion of prolactin from the pituitary gland which affects the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the ovaries.
This product should be used under the supervision of a veterinarian or other qualified equine health professional.
Chasteberry is not recommended for pregnant and lactating mares or growing horses. Its effects on the reproductive hormones have not been evaluated in these animals.
You should always consult a qualified nutritionist before altering your feed program. Submit your horse’s diet for analysis online and one of our equine nutritionists will be happy to provide a complementary review.
Consult with a nutritionist or veterinarian prior to use.
Top dress once daily on feed or ration.

Read moreAsked by February 17, 2022 6:22 pmonAnswered by the admin Hi Julie, There haven't been any comparative research studies to determine whether feeding continuously or on a three-week-on and one-week-off schedule is better. Many feeding recommendations are based on anecdotal practices that may work for some individuals without necessarily having research available to evaluate efficacy. The longest published study on chasteberry involved 6 months of feeding it continuously, but we do have some clients who report feeding it year-round without issue. https://www.navalis-vet.de/$WS/navalis/websale8_shop-navalis/benutzer/templates/pdf/global/Sonderdruck_Studie-navalis-corticosal-orig_web.pdf Are there any concerns with using this product with previcox or equinox?

Read moreAsked by June 2, 2021 9:52 amonAnswered by the admin We use a 9 CC scoop size which will measure out 5 grams of chasteberry powder. This is a pure chasteberry supplement, so 5 grams of powder equals 5 grams of chasteberry. This scoop size isn't the most relevant comparison when looking at different brands. For example, we could provide a bigger scoop in the package but it doesn't change the product. Herbs for Horses sells 1 KG of their pure chasteberry powder for $65 according to their website.
