Dr. Stephanie (Grissom) Flick was raised on a peanut and cotton farm in West Texas where her family also raised Quarter Horses and had a small cow calf operation. With this upbringing and being actively involved in 4-H and FFA, Dr. Grissom knew she wanted to be a large animal veterinarian from a very young age. She studied Pre-Veterinary Medicine at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas while also receiving training and mentorship from Dr. Bo Brock as a veterinary assistant during the summers in Lamesa, Texas. Upon early acceptance to veterinary school at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Grissom served as President of the Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, was chosen by her classmates to receive the Bo Brock Award for collegiality and good humor and was selected for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Excellence in Large Animal Surgery Award, among other honors. Following graduation in 2013 she returned to Lamesa, Texas in order to complete a 1 year internship at Brock Veterinary Clinic. Following her internship, Dr. Grissom found herself at Oregon State University where she participated in a 2 year Clinical Fellowship in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Grissom remained at OSU where she gained advanced surgical training while completing her Masters thesis evaluating early osteochondrosis in foals. It was in Corvallis where she met her husband, Gabe, who completed his PhD. in Crop Sciences, and the two returned to Gabe’s home state of Idaho. (Source)
