Born and raised in the Abilene area, Dr. Lewis has been around horses his whole life. First exposed to horses at the age of three when his parents worked for famed cutting horse trainer Buster Welch. He knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a veterinarian. It was either that or a lion tamer. However, one horrific accident, assured that he would be a veterinarian.
Whatever you do, don’t google “Fat kid gets mauled by a lion”…..It’s haunting. Dr. Lewis graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 along with his wife, Kimberly, who is a small animal veterinarian. His first two positions out of school had him working for Bud Farr, DVM in Lubbock and Joe Bob Stricklin, DVM in Abilene. Dr. Lewis started a solo practice in 1999 by leasing clinic space from Larry Dean, DVM in Abilene. By 2002, his equine practice had grown to the point that he no longer had to work on goats, pigs, and chickens. The local population of goats, pigs, and chickens breathed a collective sigh of relief. Dr. Lewis’ clientele is made up of a whole bunch of friends more so than merely clients. He is fervently interested in his clients’ successes as well as their failures: and is constantly striving to help them succeed. He is an avid team roper, who has competed in some of the highest paying equestrian events in the world. Therefore, he knows first hand what it feels like to back in there for life changing amounts of money. This allows him to understand that when you “ride to the herd”, “go down the alley”, or ” back in the box”, you want to KNOW that the horse between your legs is the best that he can possibly be.
Dr. Lewis (Randy) married Kimberly (The Real Dr. Lewis) in 1996 while they were Seniors in Vet School. Dr. Kimberly operates Key City Veterinary Clinic which is the longest operating small animal clinic in Abilene. Together, they have two wonderful children Gates, who is 17, and Brazos, who is 13. Right now Dr. Lewis is auditioning for the role of Rerun in the soon to be made remake of “What’s Happening”. However, if that doesn’t pan out, then you can be sure to find him either underneath or shoulder deep in a horse at West Texas Equine Clinic for years to come. (Source)
