Dr. Martin grew up in Maine where she first started riding horses while at summer camps. She then eventually started taking the occasional lesson.
Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Martin attended Bowdoin College in Maine for her undergraduate education, graduating in May 2009 with a BA in Gender and Women Studies. During college, she spent a summer guiding trail rides through Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Summers following this were spent working as an equine assistant for a mixed animal practice in Maine, working mostly with Standardbred racehorses.
For her veterinary education, Dr. Martin attended the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbia, MO and graduated in May 2014. Following graduation, she completed a yearlong internship program at Wilhite and Frees Equine Hospital, an equine referral and ambulatory practice outside of Kansas City, MO.
In June of 2018, she completed training for animal chiropractic through the Options for Animals Chiropractic College and is certified through the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA).
Most recently, in February of 2020, Dr. Martin also completed a certification course in equine rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee and is now a Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CERP).
Dr. Martin enjoys all facets of equine medicine but particularly enjoys sports medicine, dentistry, and chiropractic work.
Outside of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Martin is an avid runner, often training for a marathon, and generally enjoys spending time outdoors. (Source)
