If you have taken one of your pets to the vet lately, you will have noticed that there is a new face in town. The Mid-Columbia Veterinary Clinic hired their newest vet, Analiese Wenger, a graduate from Washington State University.
Analiese began her veterinary journey after completing her bachelor’s degree in biology from Central Washington University. She says she attended their pre-vet club meeting, and a nice member of the club encouraged her to consider becoming a vet, so Analiese took the leap and began vet school at WSU. This was a whole new world for her as the program was intense and held very high standards. It was a huge learning curve for her, but “the community was so uplifting and supportive,” says Analiese. One of her favorite parts of school was getting to share and learn from so many different people, each with their own perspectives and experiences. Once she made it through all the schooling part and got to actually do the clinical part, she noted, “It was so much fun working with other vets and all the sweet animals.”
After graduating, she began looking for a job, and she thanks three people for getting her to our little town of Goldendale. The first person is Dr. Farnsworth from WSU. He helped her reach out to Dr. Carl Conroy in her search. Carl is the second person she thanks—he interviewed her, and Analiese knew she wanted to be working alongside him. The final person is her sister. She put in some amazing words about Carl and Bob Schooley, fellow vet at the clinic. The influence of these three people is how Analiese ended up working in Goldendale.
Analiese says since beginning work here, she has met so many people and has been able to work with so many different animals. She also gets to complete a variety of procedures on these animals. But the end goal is always the same: help make the animal better and the owner happy. Analiese says, “One of the most difficult challenges is facing compassion fatigue and general exhaustion.” And sometimes as a vet you must deliver bad news and frequently must make decisions that can change the life of a pet owner. But these things haven’t changed her mind; she still loves doing her job and can’t wait to continue her work here in Goldendale.
If you happen to be at the Mid-Colombia Vet Clinic, be sure to say “Hi” to Analiese and welcome her to our community. (source)
