About Dr. Ana Mesa, Ph.D.

Dr. Ana Mesa is a scientist with a passion for horses who grew up in Medellín, Colombia. She earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and her master's degree from the Universidad Nacional. She then moved to the United States to pursue her PhD in equine physiology. Ana's PhD research focused on the relationship between reproduction in horses and environmental factors, such as nutrition and exercise. After completing her PhD, Ana did a postdoctoral fellowship in an endocrinology lab at the University of Florida, where she studied estrogen, endocrine disruptors, and their effects on epigenetics. She then spent a year working as a scientist developing viral vectors. Her passion for horses ultimately led her back to the equine industry, and she is thrilled to work with Mad Barn to provide equine nutrition solutions that are scientifically based. In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Mesa is also a creative and skillful illustrator, using her artistic talents to help explain complex biological processes in a visually engaging and accessible manner.
